Albert Catell, 'cellist nad conductor, was born Albert Katz in Vilna in 1910. He studied with Mischa Schneider and Julius Klengel at the Leipzig Conservatory and under Emanuel Feuermann. In 1932, he became the conductor of the Polish Broadcasting Orchestre. In 1953, he came to the United States. He was First Chair of the original Palestine Philharmonic. In addition, he performed with Artur Rubinstein, Gregor Piatigorsky and Leonard Bernstein, among others. He founded the Chamber Orchestra of New York. He died on March 19, 2000
