Yiddish linguist, writer, lecturer, editor, lexicographer. Obtained a doctoral degree at the University of Vienna. Active in the Territorialist Movement and the Freeland League. Chairman of the League of Yiddish. YIVO Associate. Editor of *Oyfn shvel*, *Yidishe shprakh* and of the *Groyser verterbukh fun der yidisher shprakh* (Great Dictionary of the Yiddish Language). Contributed to *Di goldene keyt*, *Davka*, *Zukunft*, *Yivo bleter*, *Yugntruf*, *Almanakh*, *Yidish*, *Yidisher folklor*, *Yidish lebn*. Born in Czernowitz, Rumania. Immigrated to the U.S. in 1951 and settled in New York.
