ORT (Obshchestvo Rasprostraneniia Truda Sredi Yevreyev or Society for Manual and Agricultural Work Among Jews) was founded in Russia in 1880. Initially the ORT was active only in Russia.  In 1921, an international office, the World ORT Union was established in Berlin. After the Nazi takeover in Germany in 1933, the world headquarters of ORT were moved to France. From 1943 to the present time, the head office has been in Geneva. The founding leaders of the WOU were Leon Bramson, David Lvovich and Aron Syngalowski.

Inventory: English, 114 pp., typed.  Includes the records of the American ORT Federation, the (Vilna) Ort Jewish Vocational school, the Vilna ORT Society and the ORT Photo Collection.  The YIVO Archives Control File also contains a catalog of materials in the ORT New York library
