Charles R. Allen, Jr. was an internationally recognized Nazi hunter, journalist, published author, scholar, editor, and lecturer. Born on October 18, 1924 in a suburb of Philadelphia, he received his B.A. from Kenyon College and did his graduate studies at Columbia University. He also served in Army Intelligence as a political analyst and contacts officer, based in Korea. Allen was the youngest senior editor of The Nation during the 1950s, and a contributing editor of The Churchman. Other publications to which he contributed include: The Atlantic Monthly, The Christian Century, Figaro, Harpers, Jewish Currents, Martyrdom and Resistance, Le Monde, The National Catholic Reporter, The New Republic, Reform Judaism, and others. His articles, many of which pertain to antisemitism, racism, and fascism, were also featured in numerous newspapers, including The Boston Globe, The Chicago Daily News, The Chicago Tribune, The Los Angeles Times, The Miami News, The New York Times, Newsday, and The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The author of more than ten books, his works include: Heusinger of the Fourth Reich (1963), Nazi War Criminals Among Us (1963), and Concentration Camps U.S.A. (1968). He was a frequent consultant to national press and radio-TV networks, appearing on programs such as ABC's Good Morning America, Nightline, Close-Up, NBC's Today Show, NBC News, CBS Morning News, and numerous radio talk shows. Allen devoted his life to exposing the escape and employment of many Nazi war criminals aided by the United States government agencies and other respected organizations such as the Vatican. He was called as a witness for the House Subcommittee on Immigration hearings on the findings of the General Accounting Office, and testified at a 1978 hearing that Nazi war criminals had been employed by U.S. government intelligence agenices. Allen died on September 9, 2004 in Dahlonega, Georgia.
