Erste Zabner Congregation Bnei Shulem David
Title: Erste Zabner Congregation Bnei Shulem David
Inclusive Dates: 1922-1999
ID: RG 1819
Administrative/Biographical History
Founded in New York by immigrants from Żabno (Sveti Ivan Zabno, Zhabno, Zobni), Poland, and incorporated in 1922. (Before 1919 the hometown was located in the province of Galicia in the Austro-Hungarian Empire.) The Congregation’s purpose was to maintain a place of worship and to function as a burial society. An English translation of its name would be “First Zabner Congregation”; the last portion of the name is occasionally rendered in its records as “Bnei Sholom David.” In the certificate of incorporation the Congregation’s name is given as “Erste Zabna Congregation Bnei Sholom Duvid.” The Congregation used Mount Lebanon and Mount Hebron Cemeteries. Dissolved in 1999.
