Administrative/Biographical History
Born in 1887 in St. Petersburg, Russia. In 1908, joined the Bund. In 1909, began collaborating with ORT, the Society for Handicraft and Agricultural Work among the Jews of Russia (Obshchestvo Remeslennago i Zemledelecheskago Truda Sredi Evreev v Rossii). After the 1917 October Revolution, was active in the Menshevik faction and the right wing of the Bund. In 1922, was arrested and exiled. From 1926 to 1931, was the General Secretary of the Central Executive of the World ORT Union. From 1940, lived in New York and worked for the newspaper Novoe russkoe slovo (New Russian World). Wrote several historical works in Russian and Yiddish, including The Jewish Problem in Soviet Russia (1944) and Anti-Semitism in Soviet Russia (1953), as well as two collections of Russian poetry, in 1916 and 1923. Died in New York in 1969.
