Administrative/Biographical History
Founded in New York in either 1897 or 1913, by immigrants from Semiatich (Siemiatycze, Semyatich, Semyatitcha), in the Russian Empire. Alternately known as the Covenanted Brethren of Semiatiz Benevolent Association and the Semiaticher Society in New York. Adopted constitution in 1909. Founded congregation on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Provided mutual aid, sick, and death benefits. Maintained cemetery plots. Supported local institutions and the Jewish community of Semiatich. Functioned as a burial society. Society used the Beth Israel Memorial Park, Mt. Hebron, and Mt. Zion cemeteries in Woodbridge, NJ and Queens, NY.
