Administrative/Biographical History
Rabbi Lifshitz was born in Minsk. He succeeded his father-in-law, in 1935, as the (last) Rabbi in Suwalk. Escaped the Nazi deportation of Jewish residents in late 1939. Managed to emigrate to the U.S. c.1940. In 1942 became the head of a Yeshiva at the Hebrew Theological College (Chicago) and later the same at Yeshiva University (New York). Very active in the Independent Suwalker Benevolent Association and the Suwalk & Vicinity Relief Committee of New York. Traveled after WW II to Suwalk. Died in Cleveland, Ohio in August 1947
