Administrative/Biographical History
Jewish bandleader, composer and arranger, producer, and musician. Began his musical training under his father, who was conductor of the Staatstheater Orchestra. In 1916, he was inducted into the Austrian army. While a prisoner in Irkutsk, he performed with the prisoner of war orchestra. After World War I he toured with a Soviet opera company. In 1922 he immigrated to the United States. Bandleader of Al Glaser's Bukovina Kapeleye. Musicians who performed with the band included the Epstein Brothers, Dave Tarras, and Benny Zuger. Born in Tshernovits in 1898.
