Administrative/Biographical History
These are the papers of Menachem Gershon Glenn, a writer; Jacob Glenn, a physician; and Ida Glenn, a Yiddish actress and singer. The two brothers and sister come from the Glembocki family which has its roots in Kaunas Province, Lithuania. Menachem Gershon Glenn (1898-1978) settled in the U.S. in 1914. Received a Ph.D. in Jewish studies. Authored books in English and Yiddish and was a frequent contributor to Yiddish, Hebrew and English periodicals. Jacob Glenn (1905-1974) came to the U.S. in 1923 and was a practicing physician and a writer on health in the Yiddish, Hebrew and English press. Wrote several books in Yiddish and English. Was a columnist on health topics for the *Jewish Daily Forward* and the *Jewish Press*, and a regular contributor to the *Nyu yorker vokhnblat*. Also wrote a column on Jewish names. Ida Glenn had a short career as a Yiddish actress and singer with the Vardi-Yoelit Theater Studio in the late 1920s.
