Administrative/Biographical History
Known by its acronym as the YKUF. Organization for the furtherance of secular Jewish culture in Yiddish. Active in left-wing causes. Founded in 1937, at the World Congress for Jewish Culture in Paris. Publisher of the periodical *Yidishe kultur* and many books and pamphlets. Zishe Weinper, the poet, served for many years as secretary of the YKUF. Nachman Meisel, literary critic, was its general editor.
