Administrative/Biographical History
The *Algemeyne entsiklopedye* was originally planned as an encyclopedia of general Jewish knowledge in the Yiddish language. The managing editor was Abraham Kin. From the 1930s to the 1950s, 12 volumes were published by CYCO (Central Yiddish Culture Organization), New York. The first five volumes covered entries under the first two letters of the Yiddish alphabet. The next seven volumes were titled *Yidn*. In the 1950s *Yidn* was translated into English and published in four volumes under the title *Jewish People: Past and Present*.
