Administrative/Biographical History
Originally organized in 1940 as the United Bessarabian Federation. Incorporated in 1942 as the Federation of Bessarabian Societies of America, Inc. In 1944 changed name to Bessarabian Federation of American Jews, Inc. The federation's objective was to coordinate relief efforts of independent Bessarabian *landsmanshaftn* in America for residents of Bessarabia and Bessarabian refugees to the United States. Special projects included supporting Bessarabian orphans in France and building a housing project in Israel. Affiliated with a women's division. Dissolved in the early 1950s.
