Administrative/Biographical History
Singer of classical and folk music. Known for his performances, recordings and arrangements of Russian and Yiddish folksongs as well as for his appearances as a bass baritone soloist with orchestras and opera companies. Teacher of vocal music at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, 1930-1933 and at the University of Utah. Professor of Music at the Jewish Teachers Seminary-Herzliah Institute, in New York City. Belarsky's original name was Israel Lifschitz. Born near Odessa, Ukraine. Came to the U.S. in 1930 on a concert tour and remained.
