Administrative/Biographical History
Jewish organization founded in France in 1860 for the purpose of providing help to Jews suffering from religious discrimination. Headquarters in Paris. The Alliance intervened on behalf of Jews in Serbia, Rumania, Belgium, Russia, Switzerland, Morocco, Poland, Hungary, and other countries. It also provided assistance to large groups of Jewish refugee immigrants from Russia. Lastly, the Alliance established schools in many countries, especially in the Balkans and the Middle East.
