William Zuckerman (1885-1961) was born in Brest Litovsk, Russian Empire (now Brest, Belarus) in 1885. He came to the United States in 1902 and eventually attended the University of Chicago. He was the manager of the Chicago office of the Jewish Daily Forward, and he established the European Bureau of the Morning Journal in London, where he spent much of the interwar period, returning to New York shortly after the outbreak of World War II. In 1948, he established The Jewish Newsletter, which boasted a distinguished editorial board, and he remained its editor until his death in 1961.
