Founded in New York on August 29, 1896, by immigrants from Wegrow (Wengrow, Vegrov, Vengerov, Vengrov, Vengrova, Vengrove, Wegrow Podlaski) in what was then the Russian Empire. Alternately known as the First Vengerover Benevolent Association, the Erste Wengrover Kranken Unt. Verein, the First Wengrower Unt. Verein, and the First Wengrover Benevolent Society. Provided sick and burial benefits. Made charitable contributions to causes such as the Jewish National Fund. Maintained burial plots. Functioned as a burial society. Society used the Beth Israel Memorial Park, Mt. Lebanon, and Mt. Zion cemeteries in Woodbridge, NJ and Queens, NY.
