Born Josef Lichtensztul in Warsaw in 1906, received a doctorate in law from the University of Warsaw in 1930, and during World War II, was attached to the Polish embassy in Washington.  In 1945 he joined the staff of the Anti-Defamation League.  Based in Rome, his primary activity was for the improvement of Catholic-Jewish relations.  He was especially active during the Second Vatican Council (1964-1965).  He wrote many articles and received many awards.  Died in 1987 in Rome
