Agency organized in 1905 which provided assistance to Jewish immigrant women who had been deserted by their husbands. The name was later changed to Family Location Service. Was active until 1966 when it merged with the Jewish Family Service and with the Board of Jewish Family and Children's Services.

Description: About 20,000 files on individual cases of desertion of families by husbands. Index card file of clients, alphabetically arranged. As with all collections of casefiles in the YIVO Archives, the collection is restricted. Serious researchers wishing to have access to this collection for a planned research project or publication must apply directly to the Board of Jewish Family and Children's Services and demonstrate their intention to maintain full anonymity of persons mentioned in the casefiles. They must also agree in writing not to record any names of persons or any personal information about persons mentioned in the casefiles, not to contact any persons or relatives of persons mentioned in the casefiles and to use the collection following a strictly statistical methodology, viewing only every 'n'th file and checking those files for social, economic, poliical and historical factors, rather than for personal information regarding the casefile subjects. Upon the granting of permission to use the collection by the Board of Jewish Family and Children's Services, the researcher must also sign a YIVO Archives Confidentiality Form in which the researcher promises to maintain complete anonymity of the casefle subjects, promises not to contact any families of casefiles subjects, or to record their names and to view only every 'n'th file, followng a strictly statistical methodology whose purpose is to study general social phenomena relating to the social subjects contained in the casefiles, and to refrain from studying the history of any specific individuals.
